PAST EVENTS...

Colours Near & Far Festival

The Place Near & Far Gallery & Workshop,

Kennetcook, NS

Canada Day Long Weekend June 30 to July 1 - This year Angelika is serving as Gallery Curator at the Place Near and Far and recently joined other artists from the Working Group in a long weekend celebration of heritage & culture in the village of Kennetcook.  The Working Group welcomed the Right Honourable Mayann E. Francis, O.N.S., Nova Scotia's Lt. Governor, for a private tour of the main Gallery space and new upstairs exhibits.

Riverside meadows became temporary home to a historic encampment of costumed animators reenacting the 84th Regimental Homecoming.  Family events combined with displays around the village centre provided artistic inspiration and the members of the Gallery's working group roamed the area at will.  The results of these roving demonstrations, representing a variety of styles and mediums, were displayed at the local Kennetcook Fire Hall over the weekend, then sold by silent auction.

about angelika

My name is Angelika Di Bari.  I was born and raised in Erding, which is in Bavaria, Germany.

As a child, I was always occupied by colours and was also fascinated by the harmony of colours.  I painted my first oil when I was 11 years old.  A lot of my work was created right out of my head.

But I had always used each and every opportunity to watch the artists while they are working, and had sometimes had the luck to paint together with them.

Now I'm using my daily study of nature as my source.  It's my translation of nature, informed by my own spirit, by what I bring to it.  I have a strong emotional reaction to my natural environment and I attempt to share that.

In 1999 my husband Lorenzo and I moved to Nova Scotia, Canada, where we live among the rolling green hills of East Gore.

Some of my work can be seen in Founder's Hall Museum in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and in The Gallery Near & Far in Kennetcook near our home in Nova Scotia.  Also in exhibitions in Toronto, Ontario, and in Nova Scotia at the Grand Pre Winery, Newport Landing, and my own studio in West Gore (by appointment please).

Today my work is displayed in galleries and sold to collectors in Europe, the United States and Canada.  My most recent show international show was in September of 2006 at the Frauenkircherl Gallery in my hometown of Erding, Germany.

Angelika's wool shop in Munich...It is an important point for me to share my impressions and feelings that I put in a painting with those who appreciate it.  There are so many big works in this world and it is not right to judge a work on how good or how bad it is because every single work is an art in itself and part one's own soul.

(Angelika is also an accomplished knitter and previously ran a high-end wool & knitting shop while living in Munich, Germany; click here to see some of her lovely and unusual designs.  She is also an avid gardener and a member of her local Garden Club.)

In her own words...

"To discover the value and enrichment of meeting people.  To be open to the many possibilities of life and to give them a try.

To learn anew what flexibility and curiosity can do.  The skill to choose the best out of the vast variety that life offers you.

I call this lifelong learning and I'm grateful that I had the chance to discover this philosophy." Angelika Di Bari
